FAQs

How do I book an autism and ADHD assessment?

If you are interested in booking a one-off Exploratory Session, you can use the ‘Book Now’ function on this website or use the ‘Contact’ form and I will get in touch!

If you wish to schedule a formal autism and ADHD assessment, please use the ‘Contact’ form, email hello@divergentwithin.com.au, or call (03) 9131 8737.

Do I need a referral for an autism and ADHD assessment?

No - you can self refer for an autism and ADHD assessment without the need for a referral. However, if you are 25 years old or younger, and are under the care of a paediatrician or psychiatrist, a referral may be sought in order to access Medicare rebates for the assessment.

Am I able to claim Medicare rebates for an autism and ADHD assessment and/or report?

Unfortunately, Medicare does not permit the provision of rebates for autism and ADHD assessments using Mental Health Care Plans (MHCPs) or Chronic Disease GP Management Plans (GPMPs). However, as mentioned, Medicare allows paediatricians or psychiatrists to refer clients up to the age of 25 for an autism assessment, where Medicare rebates are allowable. If you are a young adult seeking an autism and ADHD assessment, please discuss Medicare item number 135 with your paediatrician or psychiatrist if you are still under their care.

Can I use the autism and ADHD assessment report to access NDIS funding?

While the assessments and reports are comprehensive in nature, and are completed to high standards, I cannot guarantee that the report will meet the criteria for NDIS funding. The NDIS assesses eligibility based on individual functioning levels, among other factors. Although recommendations for the NDIS can be included in reports, I am unable to assist with the access request process. If NDIS access is your primary goal, you may want to explore alternative services.

What can the autism and ADHD assessment report be used for?

Your autism and ADHD assessment report can help you access accommodations and supports in workplaces and academic settings. It also serves as formal documentation of your neurodivergent identity, which may be useful to share with your GP or other healthcare providers.

For many people, the most powerful outcome of an autism and ADHD assessment is personal. A clear understanding of your neurotype can bring validation, self-awareness, and a greater sense of belonging. Whilst a formal diagnosis of autism and ADHD grants you protection under the Disability Discrimination Act (1992), diagnosis is not just about labels - it can also be a deeply affirming experience.

I already underwent an autism and ADHD assessment with another clinician and I don’t agree with the outcome. Can I seek another assessment?

Unfortunately, this can happen and can be incredibly disheartening. If you find yourself in this position, the option for a diagnostic autism and ADHD assessment with summary letter only might be appropriate. Please contact me directly so we can discuss your specific circumstances.

Do you offer payment plans for autism and ADHD assessments?

Whilst I do not offer payment plans, payments for the autism and ADHD assessments and reports are broken down to space out the financial burden. Payment for your initial consultation and feedback session (if applicable) are charged at a rate of $250, which is payable on the day of your appointment. A lump sum payment for the 3-hour diagnostic assessment must be paid on the day of the assessment session, and can either be paid via credit card or bank transfer.
